How to Break That Block

by Jaime Jo Wright

Are you stuck? That whole writer’s block thing got you sucking down pots of coffee and you still got nothin’?

Here’s a brief tip on how to break that block: Start something new.

I know. That sounds counterproductive, but let’s think about it for a few seconds. One of the reasons we get writer’s block is because we’re uninspired. We just don’t know what should come next. We need to reboot our creative juices. The best way to do that is to let our imaginations take us where they want to go—even if that’s to a completely different story! Often, a few pages in, inspiration on what we were working on will strike, and we can go back to it. Yes, try it even if you’re on a deadline. Your brain may just need a break before it becomes inspired once again!
