OCW Business

by Sue Miholer, OCW Business Manager

As noted in the Keeping Up with OCW article, all three business items were approved by a vote of the membership at the March conference, with the changes going into effect immediately. When you become a member for the first time or the umpteenth time, your membership will be good for a full 12 months. For example, if you join in April, your membership will be good through May 1 of the next year. Your membership must be in place at the time of a conference in order to receive the member discount for it. For example, if your membership expires in June and you register for the August conference in May, you will need to renew your membership in order to get the discount.

As always, the expiration date of your membership is beside your name and address on the last page of your printed newsletter. We will send one email reminder about 15 days before your membership expires.

The masthead on Page 3 of your printed newsletter reflects the rewording of our statement of faith (you can also find it here on our website). Annual dues were increased to meet the operating expenses of the organization.

You can see the new amounts on the conference registration page (Page 11 of the printed newsletter, or here on the website). You can pay to join when you register for the spring conference and then pay the member rate of $25 for the conference. As soon as you join or renew, you will receive all the member benefits, starting with a monthly e-newsletter with information that goes only to our members: writing opportunities, early information (often before it’s even posted on the website) about the summer conference, Sally Stuart’s Q&A column, and other insider tips.

Our goal as a board is to give you the “biggest bang” for your membership buck, using new ways like webinars and other social media to serve you better while expending the least amount of money. Look for more member-only perks in coming days. Even if some opportunities may eventually be open to the public on the website, you will be the first to know about and take advantage of them.
