MINDING OCW’S BUSINESS
by Sue Miholer, OCW Business Manager
A new calendar year holds several changes for OCW. Here are the items we’ll be asking the membership to vote on at our March 16 business meeting, and those approved will become effective as of that date:
Change the membership year back to an actual 12-month membership.
When someone joins for the first time, renews a membership, or rejoins after their membership has lapsed, that “new” membership will be good for 12 calendar months. (Example: Someone joins during April 2013. Their membership is good through May 1, 2014.)
Note: In order to receive the reduced member rate for a conference, the person’s membership must be current at the time of the event. (Example: Someone whose membership expires July 1 cannot take the member discount for the August summer conference when he/she registers for it in May. They must also renew their membership in order to pay the lower rate.)
Check the date in the upper right-hand corner of your mailing address on this newsletter. It tells you when your membership will expire—or perhaps has expired. If there is no date there, you are not a member.
Change the amount of annual dues—necessary to cover our increased operating expenses. (Dues have not been raised in almost a decade. Also, if you reflect income from your writing at tax time, your annual dues are tax-deductible.)
- Single membership for those under 62 – $60/year
- Senior membership for those 62 and over – $35/year
- Student membership for a full-time student – $35/year
- Couples’ membership – $75 – A “couple” is defined as two close family members (spouses, mother/daughter, sisters, etc.).
Update the wording of our doctrinal statement. Proposed rewording:
We believe the Bible to be the infallible, authoritative Word of God. We believe that all Scripture, as originally penned, was inspired by God the Holy Spirit (2 Timothy 3:16).
We believe in an infinitely perfect triune God, meaning He is one God existing eternally in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Spirit (Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 3:16–17; Matthew 28:19).
We believe in the deity of the Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His future personal return in power and glory.
We believe that believing in and accepting Jesus’s atoning death, burial, and bodily resurrection is the only way to God and the salvation He offers (John 14:6; 1:12).
(Note: These four paragraphs state OCW’s historic position as expressed in the Apostles’ Creed.)
Applicant: I agree with the above statements and have personally accepted this gift of salvation from God through His Son, Jesus Christ (Romans 6:23).
