At the Heart of Christian Writing by Mary A. Hake, OCW President
In our spring newsletter, I wrote about the heart—both personally and collectively. My question, “What is the heart of OCW?” drew only one response. Petey Prater, OCW prayer coordinator, wrote: “I believe the heart of OCW is my personal intimacy with Christ. All that is spiritual flows from that to me. “Visualize a triangle. God is at the high point of the triangle. I am on one of the lower corners, and my friend in OCW is on the other corner. My OCW friend and I are each seeking intimacy (to know God—hearing, receiving, loving, obeying God), and in searching for His perfect will are pulled up the triangle closer to Him. In moving up to God, we each move closer to one another, into a deeper intimacy of love, friendship and mutual responsibility for our relationship. The better I know God, the more I value Him and the less I want to fail Him. The better I know my (fellow) OCW member(s), the more I value them and the less I want to fail them. OCW serves God first and our membership secondly. Therefore, love that flows from intimacy with God is the heart of OCW.” |

OCW is pleased to announce William P. Young, author of The Shack, as keynote speaker for winter 2009 one-day writers’ conference.
February 28, 2009
Red Lion Hotel
Salem, Oregon
What does it take to write a bestseller that not only touches the depths of the human soul but also captures the attention of film producers? This one-day conference promises to take writers to a deeper understanding of their craft.
William Paul Young, a graduate of Warner Pacific College in Portland, Oregon, calls himself a very simple guy—one wife, six kids, two daughters-in-law and two grandbabies—who lives in Gresham, Oregon, and whose time is spent loving the people who are a part of his life.
