Colleen Coble Implore Us to Encourage One Another

by Marilyn Rhoads, OCW Program Coordinator

Best-selling author Colleen Coble believes encouragement and gratitude go a long way in the publishing world. If you are a Barnabas in all things, you will have a lasting impact.

Colleen began her writing career after her brother, Randy, was struck by lightning in 1990. She visited Wyoming where he lived and became inspired to actually write a book, a long-held dream. The first work took a year from start to finish while she worked full-time.

A prolific writer, Colleen uses action and adventure, the result of being reared on a farm with three younger brothers. Being dragged by her pony and running a motorcycle through a fence left a lasting impact.

Authors Denise Hunter and Diann Hunt are Colleen’s brainstorming colleagues and provide encouragement and practical advice. The partners have helped her develop each book before she began the writing process.

A serious traveler, Colleen adds authenticity to her novels in scope and detail. Her Aloha Reef series was set in Hawaii and the Rock Harbor series took place in the real-life town of Rock Harbor, Michigan. Her Mercy Falls series is set in the fictional town of Mercy Falls, California, and takes place after the turn of the 19th to 20th century.

She began her career publishing with Steeple Hill and Barbour. Thomas Nelson Publishers, the largest Christian publisher in the United States, has released the majority of her books.

Colleen’s novels have won or finaled in awards ranging from the Best Books of Indiana, the ACFW Carol Award, the Romance Writers of America RITA, the Holt Medallion, the Daphne du Maurier Award, National Readers’ Choice, and the Booksellers Best. She has nearly two million books in print and writes romantic mysteries because she loves to see justice prevail.

The CEO of American Christian Fiction Writers, Colleen lives with her husband, Dave, in Indiana. She is the mother of two grown children, Dave and Kara, and enjoys being the proud grandmother of three grandchildren.
