Spring Streams Bring Refreshment

by Susan Maas, OCW Secretary

Oregon Christian Writers presented the spring one-day conference on May 19 at Northwest Christian University in Eugene. Writers had a chance to hear inspiring messages and attend informative workshops on subjects ranging from fiction and niche marketing, to social media and the life of an editor.

Karen Ball—author, editor, and literary agent—presented the keynote addresses: “Did God Just Blink?” and “Shelters, Streams, and Shadows,” both based on the Bible verse, “Each one will be like a shelter from the wind and a refuge from the storm, like streams of water in the desert and the shadow of a great rock in a parched land” (Isaiah 32:2 nlt).

President Mary Hake stated that elections for a new president and treasurer will take place at the October 13, 2012, conference and introduced the nominating committee of Gail Denham, Sam Hall, and Petey Prater.

Summer Conference Director Lindy Jacobs told about the summer coaching conference to be held at Aldersgate August 13–16. Lindy and Mary drew names for a $25 gift certificate toward conference tuition, five of Karen Ball’s books, and an author portrait session from Sam Hall.

About 14 first-time attendees came forward to receive a free OCW tote bag, and Mary read eight publishing firsts. She also announced several OCW members who had recently received awards or been finalists in contests.  z
