God’s Ultimate Plan for Your Writing

by Marilyn Rhoads, OCW Program Coordinator

Brandilyn_Collins_medBrandilyn Collins is a bestselling novelist known for her “seat-belt suspense.” Her crime thrillers have earned her the tagline, “Don’t forget to breathe.” She is the author of more than 27 books, which have earned her three ACFW Carol Awards, the Inspirational Readers’ Choice, and the Romantic Times Reviewers’ Choice.

Her book Getting into Character: Seven Secrets a Novelist Can Learn from Actors, published in 2002, was named one of the best books on writing by Writer magazine.

Brandilyn didn’t realize Christian novels existed when she first started writing. When she did learn about them, she turned up her nose at the idea. So how did God take Brandilyn from her own path to His?

Her journey took 10 long years, time when she considered quitting out of frustration. But she finally realized God had joined her in her assignment. He walked beside her all the way from beginner to published author, even when she didn’t sense His presence. She learned you can fight God, or you can get on board and cooperate. Unfortunately, Brandilyn fought for the first years she wrote. Now she has achieved success as a respected, awardwinning author who teaches at writing conferences around the country, helping other writers develop their careers.

She enjoys sharing her writing journey as a way to uplift and encourage others. Brandilyn says, “It’s not my story; it’s God’s. The story of His leading, mercy, and grace.” God has a story to live through each one of us. Will you allow Him to live His story through you?
