At the May conference the board will ask the membership for permission to operate for several months outside some of the parameters of the current bylaws. The issues we voted on at the March conference need to be incorporated into the bylaws, and the board feels this is a good time to look at some new ways of doing things. Our intention is to incorporate those that work into the revised set of bylaws, which must then be approved by members at a regular business meeting.
One of the issues we’ll discuss is the term limits. As some of the offices become more and more specialized (the treasurer’s position, for example), it may be a good idea to keep people in some positions for longer than the four-year limit currently in place. We also want to design the bylaws in broad enough terms so we don’t have to keep revisiting them for every little change the membership votes to implement.
